The UK has a number of laws on the books that may be able to stop misleading advertising being used to target consumers.
In some cases, the legislation can force online platforms to take down harmful ads.
Here are some of the main ones.
If you see misleading advertising or advertising services, get in touch with us: Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is responsible for enforcing advertising standards in the UK.
They will also check to see if your adverts contain misleading advertising.
If they do, they will remove it.
They can ask you to explain how the advertising has affected you.
This is done via a form called a Statement of Reasons (SOR).
This can be a document that you sign up to when you post a commercial on social media.
They are also able to take action against you for breaching the rules.
These actions can include: removing ads from a service or website.
