Billboard has taken to Twitter to promote its new “This Is a Real Thing” ad, which the social network said will debut on the social media giant’s platform on Monday, January 29.
The ad features a young woman speaking to a group of people about her own sexual assault.
“You have been assaulted,” she tells the audience, before a man begins to masturbate in front of her.
She continues to tell the group, “This is a real thing.”
The ad follows the Facebook ad which featured a woman in an elevator talking about her sexual assault and later a woman telling a friend that she was raped by her husband.
“I was raped, but you’re not the only one,” the woman told her friend.
“He raped me too.”
The Facebook ad and the Twitter ad feature similar messages about sexual assault, with the women’s stories being more personal.
The Billboard campaign uses the hashtag #IAmNotRape to highlight the issue.
Billboard says that the campaign is about “telling the truth, making a difference, and sharing the courage that survivors of sexual assault need.”
Billboard also tweeted a video of a group from a conference at which the woman talked about her assault.
The campaign has been created by Billboard creative director Katie Klimas, and is based on the “This Isn’t Your Mama’s Story” documentary.
